you can find this file in C:\WINDOWS\pss

it is called boot.ini.backup. just copy that, paste it in the root directory of your harddrive, and rename it, by removing the .backup.

I tested it with the "Startup and Recovery" window. and my bootfile works fine.

so please look in your folder before installing windows again.

all companies make mistakes, and there was bound to be one from this great update. so please be easy on CCP, and consider all that they have given and helped you with, up to this point, and what the will be doing for you.

Download:
Windows XP (http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/boot/winxpboot.ini)( also windows 2000 installed in a folder named "Windows" )
OR
Windows 2000 (http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/boot/win2kboot.ini)

+ Copy it into the root directory of your Windows drive (eg. C:\)
+ Rename it to "boot.ini"

+ Click on the "boot.ini" tab, and select "Check all boot paths"
+ There will be a series of popups for the invalid installation paths in the above files (14 if all goes to plan), and the correct settings will be placed in your boot.ini.


Most likely, this file will contain the correct path to your windows installation somewhere there, and will be found by checking it using the msconfig tool.

OK, for those who know less about windows than a dog knows physics, here is a simple way to make a boot.ini for you.

Open My Computer, now open the C:\ drive.
You will now see folders like "windows" and "my documents". This is the right place to start.
Up at the top there is a list of options, file, edit, tools, help. Click on Tools > folder options. Now activate the View tab.
Under here you will be selecting, deselecting boxes.
Select: Show Hidden Files and Folders
Deselect: Hide protected operating system files, Hide extensions for known filetypes.Click Apply, and OK.
Now right click anywhere in the white space under C drive, New > Text Document.
Name this text document "boot.ini", and when it gives you a message about changing filetypes, click yes/ok.
Now right click boot.ini and select OPEN. if it asks you what to open it with, use notepad.
Copy the line below into the text document and save it.

[Boot Loader]
timeout=30
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows

[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows="Windows XP" /fastdetect

All finished! If you want to hide exensions, protected files and hidden files again, just go back into tools> folder options> view and select the boxes pertaining to them.

If you cannot follow this, contact your local computer service store and have them do this in 10 seconds, while charging you 300 of your currency.

Class Action Lawsuit.

By there admitted programming error they've cause computer problems to thousands of of users. If this were a virus, they'd have the police at their doorstep...

Yes my boot.ini has gone but iv had no problems starting up my PC. And it will take me 5 minutes to fix the issue, using the information that CCP has provided us with. So stop acting like CCP are oblivious the 1 million posts you people are making.

Also well done to those that have posted help, instead of flaming. Do you people actually realise that by posting on a forum, an internet forum...nobody cares...

If you have an issue with CCP or want to sue them or whatever other ludacrus ideas your coming up with, why dont you spend your time calling a lawyer, which will cost you more than just downloading the new content upgrade for FREE, or doing a system restore or just following CCP's advice.

Id like to thank CCP for a very good implemenatation on the new content, and that it was infact 4 hours early which was good for us europeans. Congratulations.

Guyz stop whining so freekin much. First if u installed the game on your system drive its your fking fault u dont know how to do with your system resources, second if u dont know what the boot.ini is just buy yourself a xbox or playstation cause computers arent for u aparently. Third if your pc have so much ''imoportant'' date wtf u dont make ghosts or backups of your HDDs, either way its your fault.

Start learning how computers really work and stop freeking whining. Everybody forgets that this patch isnt a standard patch but a almost a whole new game code, wtf u had to install it the second it came out instead to wait a few hours to really see if there are any problems. CCP u have my thanks for the work u have done and keep it up, just forget what all this compnoobs are whining instead of making themselves to learn how to really use their machined instead of just clicking YES:)
